Copywriting is frequently underestimated in the therapy space. Most practitioners think of it as "just writing some words on a page," but effective copy is far more than that. It's the art of weaving compelling narratives designed to stir emotion, foster connection, and nudge toward action. When done well, your landing page copy does the selling so you can focus on the healing.

The CLOSER Framework

Over the years, I've adopted a sales-based copywriting framework called CLOSER. It provides a repeatable structure for writing landing page copy that moves visitors from curiosity to commitment. Each letter represents a stage in the journey:

C -- Clarify: Start by clarifying why visitors are on your page in the first place. What brought them here? What outcome are they hoping for? Your opening copy should mirror the conversation already happening in their head. If someone searched for "anxiety therapist Vancouver," your first lines should acknowledge that they're dealing with anxiety and looking for professional support.

L -- Label: Identify the specific problem they're facing. Give it a name. When you label the problem accurately, visitors feel understood. "You've been carrying this weight for months -- maybe years -- and the strategies that used to work just don't anymore." That kind of specificity builds immediate trust.

O -- Overview: Expand on the related challenges and pain points that surround their core problem. Anxiety doesn't just mean feeling nervous. It means sleepless nights, strained relationships, difficulty concentrating at work, and a constant sense of dread. Painting the full picture shows that you truly understand the depth of their experience.

S -- Sell: Now present your solution. This is where you introduce yourself and your approach -- not with a list of modalities, but with a clear picture of what working together looks like and what becomes possible. Sell the transformation, not the technique.

E -- Explain: Address the objections that are quietly forming in your visitor's mind. "Will this actually work for me?" "What if I can't afford it?" "I've tried therapy before and it didn't help." Anticipate these concerns and speak to them directly. Transparency removes barriers.

R -- Reinforce: Reiterate the key benefits, bring the emotional thread full circle, and make a clear request for action. This is your closing section where everything comes together into a confident, compassionate call to book.

Implementation Process

Once you understand the CLOSER framework, implementation follows a straightforward process:

  1. Complete each CLOSER section in order, writing freely without editing. Get every thought on the page.
  2. Refine and tighten. Use a tool like Grammarly to clean up grammar and readability, but don't let it strip your voice.
  3. Review with the client. The therapist knows their ideal client better than anyone. Their adjustments often add the personal details that make the copy feel authentic.
  4. Test and iterate. No landing page is perfect on the first try. Monitor conversions and refine the messaging over time.

The goal is a page that feels like a conversation, not a sales pitch. Your visitor should reach the end of the page feeling understood and ready to take the next step.

Example Landing Page Copy

Here's a condensed example of how the CLOSER framework might play out for an anxiety-focused therapist landing page:

"You deserve to feel calm again."

Clarify: "If you're here, chances are anxiety has been running the show for a while now. You're looking for someone who can help you take back control."

Label: "The racing thoughts, the tightness in your chest, the way you rehearse every conversation before it happens -- it's exhausting."

Overview: "Maybe it's affecting your sleep. Maybe your partner has noticed you pulling away. Maybe you've started avoiding situations that used to feel easy. Anxiety doesn't stay in one lane -- it spills into everything."

Sell: "I help people like you build practical tools for managing anxiety so you can sleep through the night, show up fully in your relationships, and stop bracing for the worst."

Explain: "You might be wondering whether therapy can really help -- especially if you've tried it before. My approach is collaborative and practical. We won't just talk about your feelings; we'll build strategies you can use immediately."

Reinforce: "You've already taken the hardest step by looking for help. Let's have a conversation about what's possible. Book a free 15-minute consultation and let's see if we're a good fit."

Landing pages benefit enormously from this kind of structure. When every section has a clear purpose and the copy follows a logical emotional arc, visitors don't just read -- they act. Pair this framework with a strong single call-to-action and clear design, and you have a page that consistently turns visitors into booked clients.
